Despite our country (Spain) being the world&#8217;s largest producer of high-quality EVOO, <\/span>Spanish consumers are unaware of many factors surrounding EVOO<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as the existing varieties, the difference compared to other oils, or aspects that may appear on the labeling, such as <\/span>&#8220;unfiltered oil.&#8221;<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is true that, for some consumers, an unfiltered extra virgin may be more appealing <\/span>aesthetically<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than a filtered one due to its color and density or cloudiness. However, these aspects have no relation to quality whatsoever, meaning <\/span><strong>the statement that &#8220;unfiltered oil is better than filtered oil&#8221; is completely wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-65efdbb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"65efdbb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb1a483 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fb1a483\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Filtering: an optional step after extra virgin olive oil production<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b88f3dc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b88f3dc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once extra virgin olive oil has been produced, <\/span>filtering is optional<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, not mandatory. In an unfiltered extra virgin olive oil, in addition to the oil, there are residual impurities from the olive and some moisture.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tasting (Organoleptics):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Unfiltered extra virgin is more prone to the rapid appearance of organoleptic defects, such as <\/span>&#8220;borras&#8221;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a characteristic sensation of olive oil that has been recovered from the sides of decanting tanks and oil mills and is in contact with its sediment). Therefore, <\/span>organoleptically, filtered oil presents advantages over unfiltered oils.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Appearance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Filtered oils have a clean and bright appearance. Conversely, unfiltered extra virgin olive oils, being denser, have a somewhat cloudy appearance.
